Gun owner responsibility

Owing a gun or weapon for your safety is good. A gun can help you to protect yourself at some terrible times where you have no other option rather than using it. However, having a gun or a weapon with children at home can be a big risk. If you leave the gun at any such place, which is an easy spot for a child to reach, then the results can be very dangerous. The gun owner has some very important responsibilities, which should be carried out without giving a second though to it. You have to know gun laws in your state. There is some gun owner responsibility that one should never forget. Some of these gun owner responsibilities are given below:

ü       Follow Some Safe Storage Gun Laws: Keeping a loaded firearm in any premises under your control or custody is not a very safe idea. There are chances that your little children can find put that weapon and use it. This may result in severe injury or even death in worst cases. It is your responsibility as a gun owner to store your firearm in such a place, which is locked. It can be a locked container or you may lock the firearm with the help of a locking device. This will help in safe storage and help you to temporarily keep your gun from functioning.

ü       Be Careful with Children: You cannot always be too careful when children are around with a gun law stored at some place in your house. You should never assume that toddlers lack finger strength and cannot pull the trigger of the gun. A child's thumb is twice stronger than its other fingers. So, a toddler's thumb can push against the trigger. It is your responsibility to never leave a gun lying around your house. You should take every child safety precautions even if you do not have children. It is also a gun owner’s responsibility to store the ammunitions in at a place, which is at a separate location from the gun.

ü       Talk to your Children about Guns: Children are very curious about such things that are forbidden to them from playing with. They naturally tend to ask many questions about it. So, when children ask you questions or act out a "gun play" to you, they are addressing their curiosity. You must answer their questions with honesty and be as openly as possible with them. This will help in removing the mystery and also reduce their natural curiosity. It is your responsibility as a gun owner to teach them that real guns are different from toy guns. Your child should understand that a real gun can hurt or kill anybody if shot.

These were some gun owner responsibility, which one must follow. There are some additional safety points also. They are:

ü       Store your gun in a safe and secure place to avoid unauthorized use

ü        Know how to operate your gun properly

ü       Point your gun in the most possible safe direction
ü       Never shoot your gun while celebrating in public
These are some of the gun owner responsibility, which one should know and always take care of while handling a gun and follow your state gun law in carrying and storing your gun.
